Summer Sailing
Sailing Lessons, provided by Island Rec in coordination with the SJISF. Daily week-long lessons are provided according to age and level of experience for children, teens, and adults. Early lessons are held at Percich Pond, and more advanced lessons move to Griffin Bay off Jackson Beach. All registration is handled by Island Rec, starting in early spring. Classes do fill up fairly quickly. External Link: Island Rec
NWYRC Regattas are held up and down the west coast and we offer some support for island sailors wanting to compete in them. These are pretty intense regattas, with dozens of experienced racers on the line, and are loads of fun and a great way to make friends. Each year we decide which races we will provide support for depending on who’s interested in racing and coach availability. External Link: Northwest Youth Sailing
All Islands Youth Regatta is hosted by SJISF at Jackson Beach. This very casual one-day regatta is an excellent introduction to racing for youth sailors of all ages. Participation requires that sailors be able to right a capsized boat, know the basic racing rules, and have a decent idea what to do if a dragon surfaces during a race.
