Help us pay for a new RS Quest:
We recently purchased an RS Quest sailboat that can accommodate both a coach and small groups of adults or children. This versatile boat will allow us to offer an improved curriculum that provides guided learning with on-the-spot explanations and increasing levels of responsibility. We are seeking donations to fund this $15,000 investment in our fleet. With a recent $8,000 contribution, we are only $7,000 away from reaching our target.
If you donate, we’ll use the money for:
- Keeping program fees down, and providing aid (up to 100% of cost) so sailing is accessible to anyone.
- Buying gear to lend, such as wetsuits, booties, PFDs, and gloves, so that everyone has the right gear to be safe and comfortable, whether they can afford (or remember) it or not.
- Paying for safety boat and new sailboats (and parts, tools, etc.).
- Oreo cookies to
bribereward sailors for going out in all conditions and being hard working, thoughtful, and energetic kids.
Where do we get our funds?
Seasonal fees for participating in the Sailing Club and Race Team pay for the operating expenses for each season but they don’t cover the big costs — buying and maintaining sailboats and safety boats, liability insurance, and rent on our storage space. We rely on donations for those expenses which keep the program alive year after year.
generous support FROM
The Port of Friday Harbor generously provides the net shed at Jackson Beach for our use, pursuant to an agreement to provide community service to San Juan Island.
The four families who own Percich Pond generously provide access to the pond for summer sailing lessons in conjunction with Island Rec.
The San Juan Island Community Foundation generously provides grant money that enables us to provide reduced seasonal fees (including financial aid), free wetsuits and PFDs for sailors to borrow, a new RS Tera sailboat, and part of the purchase of a new safety boat.
Individual donors have recently paid for the floating dock used at Percich Pond, several new RS Tera sailboats for novice sailors, and new VHF radios.
Additionally, we sell company name space on the sides of our sailing boats. Volunteers do boat repairs, build floating docks, and trailer boats in and out of storage. We typically have an annual fundraiser which brings in further donations. Over the years donors have provided sailboats, inflatable safety/chase boats used during team sailor training and regattas, boat trailers, outboard motors and even larger sailing boats which we typically fix up and sell.
If you would like to help, please get in touch! Donation payments can be made via PayPal, or you can mail us a check at P.O. Box 2464, Friday Harbor, WA 98250. To donate anything that won’t fit in an envelope (like a boat), please contact us at fridayharborsailingteam@gmail.com and we’ll give you a call.
Gratefully,
